Mariazeller Bürgeralpe – WanderWunderWald & Family Adventures

Mariazeller Bürgeralpe combines mountain scenery, nature and plenty of activities for a family day out. Just a short walk from Mariazell’s main square, the Bürgeralpe Express takes visitors up to an altitude of 1,267 metres in a modern 8-person gondola, with enough space for pushchairs and wheelchairs.

At the top, families can explore the WanderWunderWald, an adventure area filled with playful outdoor experiences. In Holzknechtland, children can discover how forestry worked in the past, experiment with water-based activity stations, complete a forest quiz and take a ride on the little “Basti Express” railway. The Biberwasser play area adds marble runs, a giant slide, sand play, a ground trampoline, raft activities and gold panning. There is also a low-level obstacle course for young climbing and balancing enthusiasts.

For an extra adventure, families can try the Wald8erBahn “Flylinas Hexenflug”, a 340-metre ride through the forest. Children weighing at least 10 kg can ride in tandem with an adult, while children aged 8 and over can ride independently with parental consent. A 1.3 km puzzle trail with seven interactive stations continues the adventure through the forest.

During summer, additional water activities offer even more ways to play, including the Flying Carpet across the lake and Walking Waterballs. Families can also climb more than 100 steps to the Erzherzog-Johann observation tower for panoramic views over Lake Erlauf and the surrounding Alpine landscape.
