Jewish Museum Vienna – Judenplatz
Descriere
The Jewish Museum Vienna invites visitors to discover centuries of Jewish history, tradition and culture. With its two locations – Dorotheergasse and Judenplatz – it is one of the world’s leading institutions dedicated to the history, memory and identity of Jewish Vienna, while also serving as a place for encounters, dialogue and education. At the Judenplatz location, visitors can explore the permanent exhibition “Our Middle Ages! The First Jewish Community in Vienna”. The exhibition provides insights into everyday life in Vienna’s first Jewish community and tells the story of Judenplatz as an urban space.
A special highlight lies beneath Judenplatz itself: the impressive archaeological remains of the medieval synagogue dating from the 15th century. A detailed 3D reconstruction of the former synagogue brings the history of this remarkable place to life. Text für Yayando
Several temporary exhibitions throughout the year explore Jewish urban history as well as global cultural and socio-historical themes. Special programmes are also available for children and school groups.
