Description

"I am a little king...", "Carnival is fun when my mom bakes fritters..." – who still remembers? Wemding is one of the few places in the region where children traditionally visit shops on Gumpy Thursday for so-called "begging." This "begging" comes from the Swabian word "gumpen," which means to say funny rhymes or to hop around. The Wemding Trade Association and the city of Wemding want to keep this tradition alive under the motto "Begging Welcome." On Gumpy Thursday, shops in Wemding traditionally give small treats to all masked children. In small groups of siblings and friends, the "Maskerle" go through the streets with their parents, reciting their "begging rhymes" in every shop. There are no limits to creativity. As a reward, there are small surprises.

The marketplace will be closed to traffic.
