The event Chess and Memory Training at the Library offers you an exciting combination of strategic thinking and learning techniques.
Under the guidance of economist-psychologist Steve J. Gildemeister, you can play chess – from beginner to advanced levels. You will learn that every move has consequences and how to use mistakes to improve.

For beginners: basic rules, opening strategies, pawn chains, coordination, and the history of chess.

For advanced players: positional play, gambits, traps, tactics in the middle and endgame, checkmate techniques, chess puzzles, FIDE rules, and etiquette.

Regular tournaments with a traveling trophy and recognition of winners through photo and name.

Memory training shows various mnemonic devices and techniques to boost learning, memory, and calculation – especially for children.

Memory methods: chess notation for blindfold chess, calendar calculation, multiplication tables, names & faces, foreign languages, and alphabet improvement.
