Fairy Tale Interpretations with Hans-Gerrit Auel: Rethinking Hänsel and Gretel – A Fairy Tale That Suddenly Sounds Very Different

"Once upon a time…" – with these words, doors open to a world we believe we have known since childhood. But what if there are entirely different stories hidden behind the familiar fairy tales? What if we take a closer look, ask questions, and suddenly see what we thought we knew with completely new eyes?

"Nibble, nibble, little mouse…" – but what if death lurks behind the sweet gingerbread? And what if the story of Hänsel and Gretel hides a tale even darker and more thrilling than the one we know?

Hänsel and Gretel – two children who get lost in the forest, discover a mysterious gingerbread house, and encounter a witch. Who is this woman? And why do the children become stronger after this encounter, which nearly leads them to death?

We know the story. Or at least we think we do.

Hans-Gerrit Auel has worked with fairy tales for many years and invites you to look at Hänsel and Gretel in a completely new way. He examines the familiar scenes closely, asks questions where we previously just carried on reading, and sheds light on the story from surprising perspectives.
