Description

Between the town hall, cathedral, theater, and Nikolaiort, the Historic Christmas Market Osnabrück reveals its special charm. The setting is the old town itself: the Town Hall of Westphalian Peace, the Church of St. Mary, and the historic gabled houses frame the festively lit huts. When lights, voices, and music come together here, Christmas in Osnabrück feels wonderfully close and impressive at the same time. The market gives space to the city. That’s why it is often called the “quiet Christmas market”: less noisy spectacle, more atmosphere, more old-town feeling. In front of the town hall, the family Telsemeyer’s more than 100-year-old traditional carousel spins around. Just a few steps away, Domhof and the theater offer more highlights. There stands a 6-meter-high nutcracker, considered the largest fully functional nutcracker at a Christmas market. In front of the theater, the world’s largest operational music box with life-sized figures turns to Christmas melodies.

On the culinary side, the selection ranges from mulled wine, bratwurst, flaming punch, hand bread, and flame-grilled salmon to cheesy spaetzle, topped pretzels, stroopwafels, as well as vegetarian and vegan options. For families, the Advent calendar in front of the town hall and the brass choir from St. Mary’s are among the atmospheric moments.
