Description
Königskinder is a fairy-tale opera in three acts that tells the touching, bittersweet story of a goose girl and a young prince – a storytelling format well suited to children and families. 🎭
The performance is in German with surtitles, so you can easily follow the action.
The music is by Engelbert Humperdinck; after the success of Hänsel und Gretel he expanded the genre musically and theatrically. Historically notable: the premiere in 1910 at the Metropolitan Opera in New York launched performances around the world.
This production also has local significance: it marks the farewell of Markus Poschner as principal conductor at the music theater and gives the performance emotional depth.
The production combines symbolist Art Nouveau poetry and early psychoanalytic influences – offering visual and psychological layers that can appeal to older children and teenagers. A program for children and families.
