Description

Who has ever jumped into a well and then met a talking apple tree! And an oven asking to have its bread taken out. To then live with a woman who loves to shake out beds so that it snows on the earth. All this can be experienced in the fairy tale “Mother Hulda,” humorously, elaborately, and lovingly brought to life by the Tournee Theater Hamburg. In the Christmas fairy tale “Mother Hulda,” directed by Ralf Bettinger, the two sisters Anna-Marie and Marie-Luise are as different as sisters can be—especially when it comes to diligence. Both set off on the magical journey to Mother Hulda and show their strengths. They’re narrated and accompanied by the cheerful talking squirrel Spring, who is always looking for his lost nuts, and by Mother Hulda’s loyal servant, the melancholy Mr. Frisch, who always lives in fear of melting. Just like in the enchanted meadow with the apple tree and the friendly oven, which sing a charming duet thanks to the wonderful compositions by Charmol, both sisters help Mother Hulda in their own ways. One is hardworking, the other prefers not to help at all. And even though their mother loves them both equally and the friendly neighbor Mr. Fabula is happy about the girls’ return, the lazy Marie-Luise must finally realize, after all the adventurous encounters and tasks, that nothing comes from nothing. Only bad luck and never gold. Look forward to a musical, funny, and insightful fairy tale hour.
