Description

Hansel and Gretel or the Gingerbread Witch lives at Ilsenstein.

Who doesn’t know the fairy tale of the two children who get lost in the forest and are then captured by the evil Gingerbread Witch?

Engelbert Humperdinck set the plot of his fairy tale opera at Ilsenstein, “there, where the forest is darkest.” The late romantic composer based his children’s opera on an early version of the Hansel and Gretel story by the Brothers Grimm, together with his sister Adelheid Wette. Many well-known children’s songs—“Suse, dear Suse,” “A little man stands in the forest,” “Bake, bake a cake”—were incorporated into the composition. But new children’s songs, which later became folk songs, were also composed for the opera. “Brother, come dance with me” and the “Evening Blessing” are among them.

Based on the early version by the Brothers Grimm with music from Engelbert Humperdinck’s opera of the same name.

The event takes place in the multipurpose room of the Schierker Feuerstein Arena. Please note that the arena’s regular season officially ends on October 18, so the activity offerings of the Schierker Feuerstein Arena cannot be used before or after the event.

The arena’s cafeteria is also closed in October. Therefore, on-site catering is not available.
