Description
This dance theater tells the story of people from different backgrounds, religions, political views, and with various intentions who meet after weeks of sea travel in Buenos Aires. The city has welcomed immigrants, depends on them, and through them becomes what it is meant to be. The immigrants have left their past and thus a difficult life behind and do not know what the future holds for them. The play is about the in-between existence in which this group of people finds themselves for a short time, about their lives beginning a second time: each has the rare chance to become someone else from now on.
It is assumed that the ship the “Flying Dutchman” is the result of various ghost ship stories told by mad captains, other sailors, and even more sea yarns. The myth appears in different forms, with each immigrant longing to be redeemed and arrive in a better life. The “Flying Dutchman” represents the sum of all immigrants, the setting, the voyage across the sea, and serves as a projection surface for past and future.
