Description

The originally about 128 m deep maar lake has silted up over the millennia. It was only refilled in 1942 by damming the Nollenbach. Sediment cores now provide scientists with information about the development of climate and vegetation from long ago. Today, Jungferweiher is also an important bird sanctuary, known for its wealth of migratory birds. It is protected together with the Ulmener Maar.
