Description

Built in 1739, the parsonage of the Reformed congregation is an important architectural landmark in the community of Schapen. Today, this timber-framed house serves as an educational and meeting center for a variety of events and also functions as an exhibition space.

In the attic, an exhibit by the local heritage association vividly presents the life and activities of the "Tödden" – former traveling merchants from the region. Pictures, artifacts, and documents tell the story of the beginnings of the Tödden trade, the legendary coin treasure of Schapen, and the old merchant families of the village.

Guided tours of the exhibition – also prepared interactively for the little ones – are offered by the local heritage association.

The adjacent former brewery is used for civil wedding ceremonies. Together with the "Schmiede Lögers," rebuilt in 2012, these buildings form a harmonious ensemble. In 2020, an attractive expansion was added with the half-timbered bakehouse, where the "Schapener Bischofsbrot" bread is baked.

The directly adjacent town park invites visitors to relax with its nature trail, seating areas, and pond surrounded by tall, shady beech trees. A boules court and a play area for the youngest children complete the offerings on the grounds perfectly.
