Description

The Bayerwald Handwerksmuseum Arrach showcases traditional Bavarian crafts such as shoemaking, woodturning, broom making, carpentry, blacksmithing, cooperage, wagon building, schnapps distilling, saddlery, and locksmithing.

With over 2,000 exhibits including tools, machines, and objects, the museum illustrates traditional craftsmanship focusing on wood from the local forests.

Visitors can experience rural life from the 19th century in an authentically furnished farmhouse room, where workshops for making wooden shoes and brooms come to life.

Insights into shoemaking reveal the entire traditional production process from measuring feet to cutting and nailing to final manufacturing before industrialization.

  • The blacksmith's workshop represents the versatile craftsman who made horseshoes, weapons, furniture fittings, and ornate grave crosses.

  • Carpentry and joinery are demonstrated with traditional tools – here chests, beds, cradles, tables, and chairs were made.

  • Woodturning can be experienced with historical tools and an 18th-century foot-powered lathe used to create everyday items and intricate wooden objects.
