Description
Discover Benediktinerstift Göttweig, an impressive gem that has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since the year 2000! 🌍✨ Located high above the Danube Valley, on the eastern edge of the picturesque Wachau, the abbey offers a truly majestic view.
Known as the 'Austrian Montecassino', it impresses with its magnificent mountain location at 422 meters above sea level. Its long history dates back to its founding in the year 1083, and visitors can still discover remnants of medieval buildings today.
After a devastating fire, the abbey was rebuilt starting in 1720 in the sumptuous Baroque style under the direction of imperial court architect Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt. Today, a museum invites you to explore its rich history and art treasures. An abbey shop also offers special mementos.
