Description

Burg Rappottenstein was never conquered, which is why it ranks among the best-preserved castles in the country 🏰. Here you can explore Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance architecture all in one place.

If you look more closely, you'll discover a few special features:

  • A pendulum clock in the castle garden that has only an hour hand and is wound up every day
  • The legendary dungeon “Hungerturm” in the third courtyard
  • A double defensive oriel on the gate towers, a real rarity
  • A castle chapel with walls about three meters thick and twelve consecration crosses

The castle also served as a film set for parts of the movies “Der Eisenhans,” “Die Wanderhure” and “Maximilian – Das Spiel von Macht und Liebe.” The ProSieben show “Die Burg – Prominent im Kettenhemd” also took a close look at the castle and showed how people lived in everyday medieval life. 🎬
