Description
The depot of the Technical National Museum in Chomutov houses the most important part of the railway collection: the largest state collection of historic rail vehicles in the country. The following locomotives deserve a closer look 🚂:
- The battery locomotive Ringhoffer No. 2 (1916) is shown in operating demonstrations from time to time
- The steam locomotive 498.106 holds the official speed record: 162 km/h
- The steam locomotive DONNERSBERG (1870) is the country's second-oldest surviving steam locomotive
- Rack locomotive 404.003 (1901) is one of four original locomotives for the only rack railway in the Bohemian lands
- Electric locomotive S699.001 (1963) is a protected cultural monument with a front mask designed by Otakar Diblík
The other vehicles are also worth a look: the motor inspection trolley "Wohanka" (c. 1910) is among the smallest single pieces in the collection, and the steam rotary snowplow from 1943 was built during World War II to clear snow from the tracks. The railcar M131.1405 was for decades the most common ČSD traction vehicle and symbolizes operation on branch lines.
History enthusiasts can also view the photo exhibition "Cesta nádraží na Těšnově" 📸. The exhibition recalls Praha–Těšnov station, known as Denisovo, which was demolished in 1985.
