Freizeitgebiet Großes Holz

The forest area between Tarmstedt and Zeven is a forest known beyond Zeven’s borders. In this Lower Saxony state forest, both little and big explorers will find plenty to enjoy. The forest area is managed by the Rotenburg Forest Office and the Hepstedt Forest District.

Großes Holz Adventure Playground and Indian Village

The heart of the state forest is the adventure playground. It offers plenty of opportunities for playing, romping, building, and picnicking, with its play equipment, large green space, and inviting seating areas.

Be sure to also visit the nearby Indian Village, which offers more chances for climbing and active play.

Großes Holz Grill Hut

The rustic grill hut is equipped with four charcoal grills and several rest areas. Here you can prepare your own food (charcoal, grill items, etc.). The facility is open and free to use from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. However, personal grills are not allowed due to fire hazards. Please remember to leave the area clean.

Großes Holz Forest Nature Trail

If you want to learn more about the forest and its inhabitants, take a walk on the three-kilometer forest nature trail. Along 18 stations, you’ll discover lots of interesting and useful information about the forest. A small wild boar mounted on a post guides visitors on the path, which is also suitable for strollers and wagons.

Guided Forest Tours for Groups

Interested groups of children and adults can explore Großes Holz during guided tours led by a forest educator.

NORDPFAD Zevener Geest

For a longer circular hike, try the 23 km NORDPFAD Zevener Geest, which starts right at the Großes Holz parking lot. An orange overview board at the parking lot shows the route of the circular trail, and small logos and signposts guide the way along the trail.
