Description

Großer Feldberg is the highest mountain in the Taunus and the entire Rhenish Slate Mountains – a perfect day trip destination for families who want to experience nature.

On the summit plateau, you’ll find many exciting offerings: a historic observation tower from 1902 with fantastic views over the Taunus, a youth hostel and hiking lodge, as well as a bird of prey center.

The Roman playground near the summit is specially designed for children and recalls Roman watchtowers with its turrets – here, little ones can discover history through play.

Families will also find fascinating historic highlights like the Brunhildisfelsen rock and remains of the Roman Limes fortifications, inviting everyone to explore together.

Thanks to its cooler and more humid climate, Großer Feldberg is a refreshing retreat especially in summer. There are also numerous well-developed hiking trails, including those at the birthplace of the German Hiking Association.
