Description

Climb aboard the Gurktalbahn, the first museum railway in the country 🚂. Operating as a museum since 1974, this narrow-gauge line opened in October 1898 and once stretched 28.8 km. Today, visitors ride a surviving section of about 3 km between Treibach-Althofen and Pöckstein-Zwischenwässern.

The line's 760 mm track gauge is known as the “Bosnische Spur”. Highlights include:

  • Steam tender locomotives from the opening years, built by Krauss & Comp. in Linz
  • A route through the Gurk river valley, via Straßburg to Kleinglödnitz
  • Summer operation, when the historic railway runs
