Heimatmuseum Hiddensee
Description
The Heimatmuseum Hiddensee presents the island’s history in a way that’s easy to understand for all ages – perfect for families with kids from 0 to 17 years old. Interactive features like a quiz invite you to join in and explore.
The permanent exhibition impresses with timeless design and English texts for international visitors. Key themes include fishing, seafaring, local history, everyday life, tourism, and the artist colony. A highlight is the replica of the famous Hiddensee Gold Treasure, Germany’s most important Viking treasure.
During the main season, the “Amber Room” displays an impressive collection from the Ingolf Engels collection.
Especially exciting for families are the guided children’s tours “Once Upon a Time …” 🧸. Children from 6 years old learn how life used to be on Hiddensee and how to recognize amber. The tours last about 45 minutes and take place on Tuesdays during the Easter and autumn school breaks.
