Description

In the 17th century, the Haseldorfer Marsch was overrun by Swedish soldiers. To protect the area, the Danish king had the Hetlinger Schanze built on a sand dune. Thanks to the circular rampart and the four bastions, the Swedes were no longer able to capture the fortification. However, by the 18th century, it lost its military significance and was eventually demolished.

Today, Hetlinger Schanze is a popular excursion destination with 126,000 m² of beach. On the beach, you can watch large and small ships on the Elbe or enjoy the sun on warm summer days. Swimming is not allowed here due to the strong currents.

A real eye-catcher are the gigantic power line towers of Elbekreuzung 1 and 2. The towers of Elbekreuzung 1 reach 189 meters in height, those of Elbekreuzung 2 even 227 meters! With a clearance height of 75 meters, they are among the tallest power line towers in Europe – and long considered the tallest in the world.
