Description

The Johann-Heinrich-Voß-Literaturmuseum features a special bust of Johann Gottfried Schadow from 1799, depicting Voß at the age of 48 – long thought lost, it is a cast of the original kept at the Berlin State Library.

Johann Heinrich Voß had a major influence on higher German culture and naturally connected with Greek culture, as a Goethe quote highlights. Heinrich Heine also praised Voß as perhaps the most important German writer after Lessing, emphasizing his significance for Germany’s intellectual development.

In the museum, you can also discover original poems by Johann Heinrich Voß that reflect life in its natural state and the value beyond material opinions.
