Description

Climbing like outdoors. The mountaineering company SALEWA found the ideal site in the city of Bolzano for building a climbing hall. At the end of a climb in the hall, one feeling lingers: Climbing indoor, feeling outdoor. The absolute highlight of what is currently Italy's largest climbing hall is the large gate at the entrance, which is opened when weather conditions allow, giving climbers the impression that they are climbing in the open countryside. With more than 300 sunny days in South Tyrol's capital and its mild Mediterranean climate, it can be assumed that climbers will spend most of their time climbing with the gate open. In addition, climbing can take place in natural light, and dust from the use of magnesia stays low – with less technological effort and without additional strain on the environment. Across more than 2,000 square meters of climbing surface, climbers can take on 180 different routes ranging from grade 4 to 8c. The climbing walls are 18 and 13.5 meters high. Besides a 9.5-meter-long overhang, there are three speed routes indoors and outdoors, each 15 meters high. What the athletes are especially looking forward to is the dry-tooling wall on the outer facade, which can be used for training with ice axes. Here, SALEWA's product engineers will also test new equipment and materials. The climbing hall in Bolzano's industrial zone is surrounded by public green space, designed by SALEWA and to be maintained in the future. The park can also be used by people working in the surrounding businesses who want a relaxing break outdoors. In recent years, bouldering has seen a major boom worldwide. Here too, the SALEWA Cube sets new standards with a total of 420 square meters of bouldering area (200 indoor, 220 outdoor). The boulder blocks range from grade A to E. The site also has a climbing trail that makes it easier for beginners to get into climbing. In total, up to 250 climbers can try the various routes at the same time across the whole facility.
