Description
Klosterhof Bünghausen operates as a Biokreis-certified farm and is one of the most diverse farms in the Bergisches Land region. It is also recognized as the only "demonstration farm for organic agriculture" in the area. Meadows, pastures, and small fields are managed according to strict ecological standards.
A special feature of the farm is its role as a recognized Arche Farm, breeding endangered livestock breeds such as Red Highland cattle, Noriker horses, mountain sheep, as well as Bresse and Mechelner chickens. The operation follows the guidelines of the Biokreis organic association and the regional brand bergisch pur.
Susanne Schulte, a certified farm-experience educator, and Peter Schmidt, a farmer and journalist, offer a variety of programs at Klosterhof Bünghausen that provide insights into agricultural practices. The farm also serves as an extracurricular learning site. The offerings include guided hikes, farm tours, and experience days that teach about nature and farming. Additionally, themed and gourmet days are available for booking, highlighting specific aspects of farm work.
Klosterhof markets its own products, including beef, lamb, chicken, eggs from dual-purpose hens, fruit spreads, and medicinal wool. Gentle animal handling and on-site slaughtering are core principles designed to eliminate animal transport.
The Klosterhof Bünghausen team creates customized offers on request and cooperates with other farms in Bergisches Land if needed to promote a comprehensive understanding of sustainable agriculture and animal husbandry.
