Description

Museum Zusmarshausen is located in the historic 17th-century attic of the former princely bishopric hospital, offering a unique historic atmosphere.

The exhibition highlights Zusmarshausen's importance as a key transportation hub with Roman artifacts along the Roman road Augsburg – Mainz, including a halberd from the final battle of the Thirty Years' War.

You can visit a permanent exhibition that vividly tells how world history touched this small Swabian market town – through everyday stories and extraordinary historical objects.

A special section is dedicated to the secret "Forest Factory" Kuno, where during World War II the first mass-produced jet fighter Me 262 was assembled – made by forced laborers from a nearby concentration camp. The exhibition illustrates the stark contrast between peak engineering performance and the immense suffering of the workers through historical photos, original objects, documents, and installations.

Every year, the vaulted hall hosts the special exhibition series "Art in the District", bringing high-quality contemporary art to the countryside. The museum also regularly presents special exhibitions from its own archive that deepen historical connections and introduce important regional personalities.
