Description

On the second weekend of October, the Museumstramway Mariazell offers special rides on an electric streetcar along with optimized connection schedules from the Mariazellerbahn steam locomotive to the Erlaufsee or into town – a nostalgic way to get to the Erlaufsee and enjoy a pleasant walk there.

The Museumstramway is entirely run by volunteers who dedicate hundreds of hours every year to keeping this technical cultural heritage alive. The line between Mariazell and Erlaufsee was rebuilt from 1976 to 2015 and lovingly connects the history of Austrian streetcars and local railways in great detail.

As a recognition, the Museumstramway Mariazell received the Austrian Railway Culture Award in 2018. The event is especially appealing for families: a nostalgic steam streetcar ride combined with a complementary boat trip on the Erlaufsee makes the outing diverse and exciting.

This experience offers a wonderful chance to combine technical history and nature – perfect for a varied family excursion!
