Naturschutz- und Informationszentrum (NIZ) / Haus im Moor

Here you’ll find plenty of information about the moor and its inhabitants and learn about the people who lived with the moor for centuries and earned their living from it. You can experience the moor not only from the lovely terrace of the NIZ but also on the moor adventure trail, in the moor tunnel where you discover the moor from an underground perspective, or in the moor bioskopion. The barefoot path is an experience for all the senses, and if you prefer something more relaxed, take the approximately one-and-a-half-hour ride on the 11-hp moor train with an expert guide. Inside the house, you will also find a great exhibition about the moor. Or enjoy regional specialties like the popular buckwheat pancakes or a slice of buckwheat cake in the café.

Offers for school classes

For children and youth, the focus is on direct experience and perception with all senses. What does bog myrtle smell like? How does peat moss feel? What does cotton grass look like after 3,000 years in the peat? These are just some of the questions students will find answers to on their discovery tour through the moor.

Preschool: moor train ride (shorter than the standard ride) and moor rally (with four questions through the moor)

For schools: https://niz-goldenstedt.de/kids.html
