Description

Palais Saurau features an impressive baroque wrought-iron gate in front of the rusticated round-arch portal – one of Styria’s most remarkable baroque ironworks.

Inside the palace, you'll find the famous rotating half-figure of the Turk, a historic Quintana figure from knightly games. It is linked to the legend of the Turkish siege of Graz in 1532, adding to the cultural history.

On the piano nobile, elegant Rococo decorations from around 1770 await you, including gilded stucco ceilings, damask wall coverings, wood paneling, and white Louis XVI stoves by Michael Adamez.

The garden offers an octagonal pavilion accessible from the second floor, along with historic remains of the old city wall and a covered arcade leading to the nearby Staircase Church – perfect for exploring.

The spacious courtyard with its original arcades and neoclassical balcony galleries creates a charming, historic atmosphere to discover. Families interested in art and nature especially enjoy the exotic room decorations with tropical trees, birds, and butterflies on the Brussels wallpaper from 1830.
