Römermuseum Osterburken
Description
The Römermuseum Osterburken brings life along the Limes from 1,800 years ago to life – with exciting exhibits like the Mithras Altar and an impressive group of statues that make Roman history tangible for you and your children.
You can choose from different tours for school groups and visitors – lasting from 1.5 to 6 hours – and explore, among other things, the ancient bath, the castle grounds, and the imposing Limes tower.
The diverse interactive workshops are especially child-friendly:
In the "Doctors and Medicine" workshop, you can make your own healing salves.
At "With Toga and Tunic," you get to try on Roman clothing and armor.
In the "Leather Workshop," you’ll see original shoes and craft leather pieces following ancient techniques that you can take home.
Latin classes can learn to read and date ancient inscriptions as "young archaeologists."
In the "Roman Writing Culture" workshop, you’ll discover how the Romans wrote, prepare your own ink, and write texts on wooden tablets – as a keepsake to take home.
The Römermuseum also offers a workshop on Roman Board Games, where you can discover old game pieces and play strategy games like Nine Men’s Morris or Ludus latrunculorum with a partner.
The museum is fully wheelchair accessible with elevators and accessible restrooms, making it ideally suited for families with mobility challenges.
Besides the exhibitions, you can relax in the courtyard or take a break in the new Roman Café with cold drinks, coffee, cakes, and snacks.
At the museum shop, families can find replicas of Roman coins and a selection of specialist and non-fiction books if you want to dive even deeper into history.
