Description
The Ruine Hinterhaus is also known as the “castrum in monte” of the Wachau. It rises from a rocky outcrop above the Danube valley near Spitz.
Every year at the summer solstice, the castle complex and the Spitzer Lusthaus are lit by more than 750 cloth-and-wax torches 🔥. The best views of the spectacle are from the Donaulände in Spitz or from the south bank of the Danube.
You can also experience a lot in winter:
- The 18-meter-high keep is illuminated
- A large Christmas tree stands on the grounds
- At the winter solstice, bonfires and torches on the terrace of the nearby inn create a cozy atmosphere
