Description

The Ruine Walkenstein is a 14th-century castle ruin that once served as a watch and living tower, protecting the valley and overseeing the mining rights and ore transport.

You can look forward to an exciting glimpse into medieval defense and economic structures: the preserved granite walls rise up to two meters high and reveal the original floor plan dimensions of the tower – a true hands-on experience surrounded by nature.

The castle is located on a western rocky outcrop of the “Webersköpfle” at 359 meters above sea level and offers ideal conditions for a family hike with panoramic views and a historical adventure.

Especially worth seeing is the neck ditch on the east side of the tower, providing a fascinating insight into medieval defensive architecture.
