Description

Schloss Steinau is the earliest, largest, and best-preserved Renaissance complex in Hesse, offering you a fascinating insight into the architecture of this era.

The complex impresses with its distinctive pentagonal design, economic buildings in bastion form, and a dry moat – all in the style of Italian Renaissance fortresses.

The tall bergfried tower with its eight floors and approximately 40 meters in height has an observation platform, from which you get a great view of Steinau and the surrounding hills – perfect for families who enjoy taking in the landscape.

Inside the castle is an important Grimm's fairy tale exhibition featuring original documents and artworks, which is especially exciting for all visitors interested in fairy tales and history.

The castle kitchen on the ground floor offers an impressive experience with its large fireplace; above it are the former count’s apartments, giving the whole family a lively glimpse into life at that time.

In front of the castle stands the historic Marstall from 1557/58, which once housed a marionette theater – a highlight for families who are passionate about cultural history and puppetry.
