Description

The Stadtmuseum Waldkraiburg presents the history and origins of the city, founded on the site of a former gunpowder factory and later a refuge for displaced people.

The permanent exhibition features interactive elements such as reenactments, audio stations, films, photographs, artifacts, and documents to vividly illustrate life in Waldkraiburg through different periods.

Particularly impressive is the portrayal of the German explosive chemical industry as a gunpowder production site during World War II and the living conditions of that time. A dedicated audio station with photos and original objects tells the story of the destructive phase of National Socialism.

The postwar period comes alive through videos with eyewitness accounts, refugees’ luggage, maps, and photos – here you will learn a lot about the challenges and strong determination of the founders who turned the Pürten refugee camp into a new home.

A special highlight is the museum cinema featuring exciting film footage. Also, there is an exclusive interview with internationally renowned musician Peter Maffay, who talks about his musical beginnings in Waldkraiburg.
