Stadtteilpark am Pleißenbach

The Stadtteilpark am Pleißenbach is part of the “City on the River” project and the largest intervention area of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025. On the site of the former Altendorf freight yard between Beyerstraße and Rudolf-Krahl-Straße, a new urban open space has been created from a long-abandoned and heavily sealed area. Public green spaces, paths, and seating areas provide room for relaxation, socializing, and leisure. The area is complemented by spaces for housing, community needs, and commerce. At the same time, the Pleißenbach has been more closely integrated into the cityscape. The redesign improves the ecological quality of the area and makes an important contribution to flood protection. Thus, Stadtteilpark combines modern urban development, climate adaptation, and quality of life to create a new attractive place for Altendorf and all of Chemnitz.
