Description
The Themenwanderweg Schmugglerweg Klobenstein takes you along the trails of traders and smugglers through an impressive alpine gorge. This route, used by Celts nearly 2,000 years ago, offers breathtaking views and exciting nature experiences.
Highlights of the hike include two large suspension bridges, one of them a 33-meter-long bridge over the Großache Gorge, and the impressive Teufelsstiege. Kids can discover the surroundings in an interactive way through a scavenger hunt with an app and smuggler’s map – turning the path into a special adventure for little explorers. 🌲
The trail connects the towns of Kössen in Tyrol and Schleching in Bavaria and tells the lively history of smuggling, which after World War II involved goods like cigarettes, coffee, and cheese crossing the border. The surrounding nature also invites you to enjoy outdoor activities such as rafting, kayaking, trail running, and fishing.
Especially fascinating is the story of the Maria Klobenstein pilgrimage church, said to be built in gratitude for a miracle when a massive rock narrowly missed a farmer’s wife. The combination of history, nature, and activity makes the Schmugglerweg a memorable experience for the whole family.
