Description

Discover the exciting world of prehistory at Urweltmuseum Aalen! It is the largest municipal museum for geology and paleontology in Baden-Württemberg and guides you through the fascinating era of the Jurassic period. Did you know that Aalen and its surroundings are considered a "geologist's Mecca" for the Jurassic period? 🦕

In the heart of the historic Old Town, in the old Reichsstädter Rathaus with the Spionturm, approximately 1000 prepared fossils are waiting to be admired by you. These finds bring the fauna of the tropical Jurassic sea to life! Admire impressive exhibits such as sea urchins, corals, mussels, ichthyosaurs, and numerous ammonites – including shiny "gold ammonites" and giant ammonite shells. You can also discover fascinating reconstructed dinosaur skulls.

The museum makes the prehistoric world tangible through animal reconstructions, a video station, and especially through many hands-on exhibits. Here you can get actively involved and playfully explore prehistory! Discover exciting stories about local peculiarities, such as the formation of the Nördlinger Ries by meteorite impacts and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Caves and Ice Age Art of the Swabian Alb. Urweltmuseum Aalen offers a comprehensive educational program, including special holiday programs and the opportunity to celebrate children's birthdays! 🥳
