Description

Set directly beneath Karlštejn Castle, the Wax Figure Cabinet covers over 700 m² and brings Czech history to life in period settings, from the Hussite era to Napoleon.

The tour starts with a giant kaleidoscope, a 70-meter-high imaginary sphere created with rear projection and mirrors. Its kaleidoscope cinema shows a special film of Czech architectural and historical treasures in a simple format that resembles a children's peep-show. Along the way, a miniature model of the medieval town from the time the castle was built, plus demonstrations of medieval crafts.

  • A medieval prison and executioner's area for kids who enjoy spooky, history-themed displays
  • A traditionally dressed jester and the legend of Queen Elisabeth of Pomerania, said to have bent iron with her bare hands
  • An alchemist court scene with Rudolf II, astronomer Tycho de Brahe and Jehuda Löw at work on a giant Golem
  • Famous figures such as Maria Theresa, Napoleon, Franz Joseph I, Masaryk, Dvořák, Smetana and Mother Teresa

Visitors can also watch how the wax figures are made, while light and sound effects enhance the whole exhibition.
