Description

Right through the Ulmener Maar tunnel, passing through sediment layers millions of years old: Experience gripping stories from the earth’s primal forces, the formation of the Vulkaneifel, and especially the youngest volcano in Germany, the Ulmener Maar. In a unique location beneath the A 48 highway, you'll see not only traces of medieval tunnel construction but also remnants of vegetation from thousands of years ago. Just as fascinating is learning why the tunnel was dug at all and how Ulmen’s water supply worked in the past and still operates today. The hike around the Ulmener Maar and the stop at the old waterworks complete the tour. Please wear sturdy shoes. Warm clothing is recommended.

Price: Adults €10.00, Children 5-14 years €5.00, group rates available on request

Meeting point: 56766 Ulmen, in front of the tunnel entrance (on the side of the Jungferweiher). Access and parking via Höchstbergerstraße and the Ulmen campsite (Ladestraße/Am Weiher).
