Advent Concert SchlossChor at the Burgenverein Schloss Oberstein e.V.
Description
Under the direction of Christian Kurtzahn, the SchlossChor at Burgenverein Schloss Oberstein will present a sophisticated Advent concert on the first Sunday of Advent this year (November 29, 2026) in the Catholic Church of St. Walburga, lasting about 80 minutes.
Two musically very different, grand Magnificat works full of theological and linguistic power will be performed.
Christian Kurtzahn draws a fascinating arc between Vivaldi's Magnificat and the modern Gospel Magnificat by Robert Ray.
The Magnificat is often called a “revolutionary song” because it reverses existing power structures.
It is also a central Advent composition that is always fitting because it conveys trust, mercy, and the hope of redemption and social justice.
12 musicians from the Mannheim Chamber Philharmonic, two vocal soloists, and a percussionist accompany the concert.
The chamber philharmonic will also present "Winter" from Vivaldi's "Four Seasons."
Additionally, the SchlossChor will perform some smaller Advent-themed festive pieces to round off the program.
