Description

While studying the map, you come across the entry "Alte Burg" in the Flamersheimer Forest on Speckelsteiner Allee. If you think of a medieval castle ruin here, you would be mistaken. It's a so-called burgus, a small tower-like fortification from Late Antiquity that was part of a Roman settlement. Especially remarkable: here in the forest, the small rectangular earthwork made of rampart and ditch is still clearly visible in the landscape!

Program: Guided tours to the Roman burgus – archaeologists explain the site. The burgus in a 3D model. Archaeological monuments in

the forest and their threats.
