Bunker Pur

Description
Experience a piece of history up close: Guided tour through a bunker from the 1960s
Dive into the world of the Cold War and discover a unique bunker, designed in the 1960s as the command center for disaster control in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. In the event of a severe conflict, this was where the evacuation of the population would be organized and refugee flows managed. Since it was decommissioned in the 1990s, the bunker has almost completely preserved its original equipment – including the technical installations that make it an impressive witness to history.
Experience original technology from the 1960s: telex and telephone devices, emergency power generators, water supply, air conditioning, and heating – all fully operational and unchanged. Especially fascinating: a fully equipped radio studio from the 1960s that is still functional and offers you a unique insight into the communication capabilities of that time.
During the tour, you take on the role of officials from the North Rhine-Westphalia state government. At various points, you have the opportunity to operate the historic equipment yourself and get a sense of the challenges and tasks the authorities prepared for in an emergency.
This unique journey through time not only offers fascinating insights into the technology and structure of a bunker but also into the societal fears and political conditions of the 1960s. Let yourself be transported to an era when the Cold War held the world in suspense – and discover how North Rhine-Westphalia prepared for any eventuality.
