Description

Hiking

We welcome you at the entrance gate to the llama pasture. Our llamas and alpacas graze just below Schönecken Castle on a traditional orchard meadow.

After a brief welcome session, you will get to know our llamas and alpacas more closely. The calm nature of the animals gives you plenty of time for this. During a fun introduction, you will learn interesting facts about the life of llamas and also how to handle them. The llamas and alpacas are very patient and gentle.

On the pasture, we practice leading them for the first time. Then our little hiking adventure begins right in the middle of the Schönecker Switzerland Nature Reserve.

Right at the start, we walk down into the valley of the Altburgbach stream. We follow the stream, whose bed winds through the forest in countless bends. We’ll learn from our knowledgeable guide why there is often no water here in summer and what a sinkhole is. After a while, we discover a towering rock hidden among the mighty beech trunks: on it rests an ancient refuge castle. Here awaits a steep climb: a narrow path winds up the slope to the cliff edge.

Long ago, Celts hid in this refuge castle when the open plains outside became too dangerous. We take a break here for a while. Those who want can explore the rocks. Surely we will also have plenty of time to take pictures with the llamas or alpacas.

Soon after, we reach the "Op Ischt" plateau and enjoy the wide view reaching over to the Hohes Venn. From spring onwards, rare protected plants like orchids grow at the edge of the plateau. Depending on the season, we discover flowers, butterflies, edible herbs or – in winter – tracks of deer, martens, and more.

Back at the pasture, we say goodbye to our faithful companions, the llamas and alpacas.
