Visitor Mine Fell
Description
The visitor mine is located directly on the mine hiking trail, which passes by 10 slate mines and explains the history of mining in the Nossertal. As the starting point of the dream loop (Schieferwackenweg), which is part of the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig, the mine is ideal for hikes into the Moselle side valleys or along the old slate mines.
The new information center
It started with a question: how can the existing museum building of the Visitor Mine Fell be transformed into a visitor center that reports with modern presentations on the history of the former slate mine, underground work, the use of slate, and its current applications? At the same time, multifunctional use of the space for a bistro and additional cultural events was to be created – all realized with a small budget. The solution was called “enclosure,” meaning a second building was constructed over the original one, creating an intermediate space where all other requirements could be met – an architectural gem was created.
Bistro "WeinStein"
Your physical well-being is also well taken care of. In our shop and the snack bar "WeinStein," you can find a wide selection of souvenirs, refreshments, fine wines, and meals. A terrace and slate-covered pavilions invite you to relax.
Opening hours:
April 1 to October 31, Tuesday – Sunday and all holidays, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (last tour: 4:50 p.m.). Guided tours run continuously. Registration is not required for families and individuals!
Bus groups please register.
Tours outside regular opening hours are possible for groups upon request!
The Visitor Mine Fell is closed from November to March (winter break)!
