Description

Bandkeramik-Museum Schwanfeld invites you on an exciting journey back in time to explore the world of Europe’s oldest farming cultures. This hands-on museum offers you the chance to dive into the world of the Linear Pottery culture through detailed replicas of everyday objects and clothing, helping you better understand the exhibits.

In twelve engaging thematic areas, you’ll learn all about the development of a prehistoric village around 5400 BC: from farming and house-building to pottery, art, rituals, hairstyles, and burial-related family customs. One of the most impressive stories is that of a 25-year-old ritual founder whose burial shaped the local burial practices for over 400 years.

Films with ethnological and folkloric comparisons deepen your insight into this ancient culture. Only a few original flint artifacts are on display—the focus is on experiencing and trying out the replicas.
