Beltringharder Koog

Description
Beltringharder Koog is the largest nature reserve on the mainland of Schleswig-Holstein, covering 3,400 hectares, and borders the Nordstrand peninsula. Here you'll find expansive views, peace, and nature.
The boundaries of Beltringharder Koog are the old marshlands of the Hattstedt municipality and the Nordstrander Damm. The Arlau river winds like a near-natural flatland stream through the farmland and the lush green meadows of the Hattstedt Marsh. The famous “Schimmelreiter” from Theodor Storm’s novella rode here along the old sea dike, which now lies between Beltringharder Koog and the surrounding inland.
Beltringharder Koog is especially popular with birdwatchers.
