Description

The cave system extends around 1,700 meters and is not only remarkable for its depth but also for its fascinating insights into prehistoric times.

Here, you'll find fascinating artifacts such as bones of cave bears, cave lions, cave hyenas, and reindeer, as well as archaeological items from the Mesolithic, Bronze, and Iron Ages. Particularly interesting are the traces of early hunter camps and signs of ritual burial ceremonies from the Iron Age.

Nature lovers can also enjoy cozy encounters with fire salamanders that use the cave as their winter habitat. The cave has been a showpiece since 1888, making it one of the older tourist caves in Germany.

  • Historic areas with old connecting tunnels and a former gas-lit cave installation
  • Leisure facilities around the cave, such as a sports field and a historic bathing area
