Biotopwildpark Anholter Schweiz

Description
Biotopwildpark Anholter Schweiz, also known as "The Showcase of Nature," offers an impressive park landscape with a history spanning over 100 years. This facility invites you to explore the native wildlife featuring more than 300 animals and 50 species. Visitors can feed the animals, provided they use the feed offered on site. A special highlight is the lake scenery with the "Swiss House," modeled after Lake Lucerne.
The park's history dates back to 1893, when Prince Leopold zu Salm-Salm commissioned a replica of Lake Lucerne with the Swiss House and a rocky landscape in memory of his honeymoon. Materials such as stone and wood were transported from Switzerland to the Lower Rhine. For the 100th anniversary, the English garden, which is now a protected monument, was expanded into a 56-hectare biotope wildlife park. Six kilometers of well-maintained sandy paths wind through Lower Rhine and Münsterland landscapes, passing spacious animal enclosures and large aviaries.
