Bremer Roland
Description
The Bremer Roland is part of the UNESCO-Welterbe and is an impressive cultural monument – ideal if you want to go on a discovery tour with your children. The medieval statue from 1404 gives children a direct connection to over 600 years of history. With a figure height of 5,47 m on a 0,6 m pedestal (total 10,21 m) the Roland is a dramatic eye-catcher. 👀
Particularly exciting for you are the small discoveries: under Roland's foot sits the so-called Krüppel, which you can look for; during the 1989 restoration a time capsule was found inside – a real mystery. The original Roland head is shown in the Focke-Museum, while a replica sits on the monument – so you can easily combine a museum visit and the outdoor visit.
Local legend says Bremen will remain free as long as the Roland stands. During the Freimarkt the Roland is festively decorated with a large gingerbread heart and colorful balloons. The Roland motif appears on coins and medals and there are numerous replicas worldwide – a global connection that will spark your curiosity.
