Description

It looks like a somewhat oversized swimming pool, as if a giant had punched a hole in the meadow with his hand.

The real story behind this wonderful spot on earth is not too far from that idea. In fact, around 1910, a flood from the Kemnitzbach stream washed out a large rock from the meadow. After the stream returned to its bed, a water-filled hole remained.

This inspired the owner, Richard Ketzel, a Plauen lace manufacturer who lived in Ruderitz, to have a bathing area built in the earth hole and open it to the public. They even composed a "Breyerlied" song about it.

Historical photos show that as early as the 1930s there were changing cabins there. After the war and with the division of Germany, it vanished into the depths of history. After reunification, the property was returned to the original owner family and has since been maintained by them.
