Description
The Bunkermuseum Hamburg brings history to life through personal insights from eyewitnesses of the air raids on Hamburg-Hamm and London-Holborn. This makes the past vividly tangible.
You can discover numerous exhibits and documents that clearly explain air raid protection measures and different types of air raid shelters.
A highlight is the faithfully reconstructed underground four-tube bunker from 1940/41, furnished with original-period furniture. This provides an impressive sense of what life was like back then.
The bunker sheltered thousands of Hamburg residents during the devastating firestorm of 1943, telling moving stories and the significance of the place.
The architecture of the bunker, with four two-meter-wide and seventeen-meter-long tubes, each accommodating 50 people, along with dry toilets and hand ventilation, impressively showcases the engineering skills of that time.
